Martin Hilderbrandt

This German immigrant settled into the Oak Street section of New York City in the mid-1800s and became one of the first professional tattooists in the United States. Using the hand method, he tattooed many attractions of the era, including his daughter Nora (as seen here) and Frank and Annie Howard.
