Norman Rockwell's Tattoo Designs
Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) was one of America’s great painters; his art has graced the covers of many magazines including 322 issues of The Saturday Evening Post. Although many thought his artwork corny with its portrayal of traditional American life and values, when his art appeared on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post, 50,000 to 75,000 additional copies were sold on the newsstands!
Norman Rockwell was a fan of tattooing, going all the way back to 1919 when he was putting tattoos on the people in his paintings. Sailors, fishermen, model builders, pirates -- they all had tattoos. Sometimes they were very subtly done so you really had to look hard at the painting -- but they were there. This exhibition will feature some of these prints.
This exhibit will run through June 30, 2008.
